FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY — November 21, 2025 --At a time when emotional honesty is often compressed into fleeting moments on social media, Detox Gallery - a New York City nomadic fine art gallery and collective founded by curator and entrepreneur Vickie J. Lin - presents an exhibition that invites viewers to slow down, listen inward, and sit with what is often left unspoken.
Opening December 11, 2025, at 529 Arts in Chelsea, I Grieve Different gathers 18 multidisciplinary artists from the U.S. and abroad for a deeply personal meditation on grief, resilience, and the stories we carry.
Housed in a respected creative hub shared with ACA Galleries, David Zwirner, and the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, the exhibition transforms the space into a month-long reflection on how loss shapes identity, memory, and the ways we return to ourselves.
A Show About Grief That Refuses to Flatten It
“The show will explore the unique and deeply personal ways artists process, express, and live through grief,” Lin writes in her curatorial statement. “We seek to explore the multifaceted nature of grief—not as a universal experience, but as an individual journey that manifests differently across cultures, identities, and personal histories. In today’s culture of viral dances and fleeting trends, we’re often quick to transform works of profound emotional weight into something lighthearted or consumable. This exhibition seeks to hold space for what lies beneath the surface, spotlighting how creative practice becomes a vessel for navigating loss, memory, and transformation.”
For Lin, the exhibition is equally about community and visibility.“With this show, I wanted to create a space where people feel seen in their pain, but also in their capacity to grow,” she says. “Grief is universal, yet deeply personal. Every artist in this exhibition approaches it with their own language, medium, and emotional truth.”
Exhibition Highlights
• A Chorus of Perspectives: The 18 participating artists bring forward narratives of love, lineage, identity, and emotional endurance through painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, and textile installations. Their works examine grief not as a singular event, but as a lifelong, evolving force.
• VIP Opening Reception — Guests are invited to an evening featuring live painters, music performances, vendors, and THC/CBD-infused beverages from Ayrloom and additional partners to be announced.
RSVP to the VIP Opening Reception.
• Community & Wellness Programming: Throughout the exhibition, visitors can participate in soundbath meditations led by MG Jarrett, a restorative yoga and end-of-year journaling workshop, and a 2026 vision-boarding session led by Artgurl, a women-powered creative collective known for intentional, community-driven programming.
All sessions are available via Luma (luma.com/detoxgallery) with limited capacity.
A Nomadic Gallery Rooted in Healing and Collective Care
Detox Gallery has built a reputation for accessible, story-driven programming that uplifts emerging and underrepresented artists. By weaving wellness practices into its exhibitions, the gallery emphasizes that healing can be both an individual and a shared process.
With I Grieve Different, Lin continues to pursue this mission by creating a reflective space where grief is not treated as a quiet burden, but as a connective thread between strangers - something we all know and will experience in life, yet rarely talk about, let alone see honored in a gallery setting. The exhibition invites moments of contemplation, community, and unexpected joy in discovering the ways art can name what words cannot.
